National Security Technologies (NSTec) has achieved a level of operational excellence unparalleled in the NNSA complex.
In 2009, the company was the first to achieve the four highest standards for management excellence: the DOE Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star, the Earned Value Management System certification in Project Management, and the International Organization for Standardization certifications in quality (ISO 9001) and environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
The certifying agency, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, recognized the company one year ahead of a scheduled three-year plan to obtain the prestigious ISO 9001 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications. The ISO standard provides a tried and tested framework for managing an organization's processes to consistently produce products that satisfy customers' expectations.
In 2010, the company was awarded DOE's prestigious VPP Superior Star Award for achieving a consistently superior level of performance in meeting established safety and health goals, actively conducting outreach to others, and achieving an injury and illness rate significantly below the average of similar businesses and operations.
As part of the NSTec's commitment to excellence in project management, it also has earned DOE/NNSA certification of its Earned Value Management System in accordance with the American National Standards Institute/Electronic Industries Alliance Standard 748. This national standard identifies a set of best business practices for establishing and applying an integrated management system with coordination of work scope, schedule, and cost objectives and application of earned value methods for project, program, or enterprise planning and control. Using best practices for the planning and execution of work increases confidence and the probability of successful delivery of work at the NNSS.
